Our mission is to reduce textile waste going into landfill, support a circular textile economy, and create green manufacturing jobs.
We partner with industries and consumers to recover textile waste and transform them into upcycled merchandise items, fashion & apparel pieces, as well as new recycled materials.
just fashion transition
The New Factory is a cooperative experiment for a just circular fashion economy.
We are committed to the shared-ownership model, following in the footsteps of the Mondragon Corporation and many similar cooperative and steward-owned companies worldwide.
Together with Fashion Revolution Indonesia, we are working to scale-up experiments to expand worker-ownership and increase the just fashion transition recycling capacity of Bandung’s textile recycling sector.
Structural Protection for Workers
At its heart, The New Factory exists to provide structural protection for workers in the informal sector who are deeply engaged in circular value chains. These workers are the backbone of textile recovery and reuse, yet they are often the most vulnerable i.e. without stable and living wage income, social protections, and recognition for their contributions to environmental sustainability.
Why Co-operative?
By organizing as a cooperative, we aim to secure living wages, dignified working conditions, and democratic governance for our worker-members.
Through this model, we are not only building a more resilient recycling ecosystem, but also ensuring that those who labor at the foundation of circular fashion – waste sorters, cutters, stitchers, and innovators – are the very people that also benefit from its growth.
Support Our Cause
We invite partners, funders, impact investors, and allies to support our work. Help us build a scalable case for a just and sustainable circular economy.
We don't discriminate workers by their age. 50% started in their 40s.
all of our workers and their core family members protected with national health care.
The New Factory began with the support of a grant that fueled our vision to reduce textile waste and empower garment workers through circular innovation.
Today, we continue to make an impact beyond the grant—building partnerships, hosting workshops, and creating upcycled products that turn waste into value and sustain meaningful change.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Question
Is The New Factory a business or a nonprofit?
The New Factory is a worker-owned cooperative. We operate like a business in that we generate revenue through upcycling services, a fashion label, and material innovation. But unlike a conventional company, we are structured so that value is fully reinvested into the cooperative and shared among worker-owners.
We also welcome impact investment and partnerships that align with our mission: building a just and sustainable circular fashion economy where workers are protected and ecological responsibility comes first.
Why a cooperative model?
Much of Indonesia’s textile recycling relies on informal workers earning below living wage and without protections. By organizing as a cooperative, we ensure: living wages; Safe, dignified working conditions; democratic governance.
This makes us different from traditional businesses, which prioritize shareholder profit, and from NGOs, which exclusively depend on grants. Instead, we blend enterprise sustainability with structural protection for workers.

What kind of investors do you work with?
What kind of investors do you work with?
We are open to impact investors, funds, and mission-driven partners who see value in aligning financial returns with social and environmental outcomes.
Our cooperative structure means we do not operate for extractive reasons. Instead, we prioritize reinvestment into worker livelihoods, recycling infrastructure, and innovation. Investors who join us are those who believe that circular fashion can and should grow in ways that protect both people and the planet.
What do you do with textile waste?
We take a varied and creative approach depending on the type of textile waste we receive.
Deadstock fabrics and factory off-cuts are transformed into fashion collections and accessories under our TNFS label, to retain its re-use value.
Uniforms, other branded waste, or post-consumer types are reimagined into meaningful gifts and merchandise for our corporate partners, giving discarded materials a second life with purpose.
For residual and non-recyclable waste, we convert those into COPPO, an upcycled composite material used in interiors, retail displays, and installations.
Through these multiple pathways, we ensure that textile waste is diverted from landfills while unlocking its full potential.
