The New Factory X Hidden Gems Project

overview

Bedah Lemari is an in-house event by The New Factory designed to introduce practical upcycling habits while reducing unnecessary wardrobe waste.

The event also opened a collection box for visitors to responsibly drop off unwanted fashion items. To enrich the experience, Bedah Lemari featured a mini pop-up by local brands and fashion exhibition showcasing works from 28 curated designers, winners of The New Factory’s “Bandung Upcycle Fashion Competition.”

Together, the event highlighted how creativity and circularity can be integrated into everyday fashion choices.

challenge

Many people accumulate unused fashion items but lack the skills or motivation to repair, redesign, or responsibly manage them.

At the same time, sustainable local brands and young designers need more platforms to showcase their work to audiences who care about ethical fashion.

The challenge for The New Factory was to create an event that not only addresses wardrobe waste, but also connects these audiences with creative solutions and alternative consumption models.

solution

The New Factory curated a multi-layered experience that combined hands-on practice, responsible disposal, and curated discovery.

The upcycling workshop empowered participants to give new life to their unused tops through simple repair and redesign techniques. The collection box provided a straightforward channel for visitors to declutter responsibly. Mini pop-up highlighted local brands aligned with sustainable values, while the fashion exhibition amplified innovative upcycled works by 28 emerging designers.

This integrated approach demonstrated The New Factory’s commitment to making circular fashion accessible, creative, and impactful.

Bedah Lemari created meaningful, hands-on engagement with circular fashion. Participants learned practical upcycling techniques and gave new life to clothing they would otherwise discard.

The collection box gathered unused fashion items from visitors, ensuring they could be redirected into future reuse initiatives instead of ending up as waste.

The exhibition of 28 curated designers also broadened public awareness, showing how creative design can elevate discarded materials into high-value fashion.
