Hari Boemi Collection 2024

The Overview

For Earth Day 2024, Oemah Etnik wanted to celebrate sustainability through a collection that carried their signature aesthetic while minimizing waste.

In collaboration with The New Factory and Setali Indonesia, we transformed their leftover textiles into functional, everyday items most notably laptop sleeves and bucket hats crafted from offcuts and excess fabrics that would otherwise remain unused.

This project showed how traditional craftsmanship and circular design can coexist beautifully within a modern fashion brand.

challenge

Oemah Etnik has long been committed to building a sustainable ecosystem not only through craftsmanship and responsible materials, but also by nurturing the livelihood of the artisans behind their work.

However, this commitment also meant confronting the reality of production waste: small, irregular offcuts from their intricate fabrics that held cultural and economic value.

The challenge was finding a way to honor these materials and the people who make them, by transforming leftover textile fragments into new products that still carried Oemah Etnik’s identity and supported their sustainability vision for Earth Day 2024.

solution

The New Factory collaborated with Setali Indonesia to design and produce a line of accessories that embraced the irregularity of the waste materials.

By carefully sorting, trimming, and reassembling the leftover fabrics, we created laptop sleeves and bucket hats that highlight the character of Oemah Etnik’s textiles without compromising durability or function.

Each piece was crafted through an upcycling approach that honored the material’s original story while giving it new purpose—resulting in a meaningful, limited-edition Earth Day collection.

The Lilac Akar Tenun Bag was created from the fringe-like remnants of Oemah Etnik’s woven fabrics that were too irregular to use in garments but too meaningful to discard. The New Factory transformed these loose woven ends into reinforced textile panels, crafting them into functional sling and hand bags that retain the brand’s signature aesthetic. This project shows how even the smallest leftover materials can be reimagined into purposeful products through thoughtful design and material innovation.
